History of the Club |
|
Western Airways Cricket Club was formed in 1950 by the employees of the Western Airways Company which was based on Weston-s-Mare airfield. The club was a founder member of the Weston-s-Mare & District Midweek Cricket League in 1951 and played its "20 over midweek" matches at the Drove Road Recreation Ground in Weston-s-Mare. In 1976 the club first played regular "45 over" weekend cricket when it introduced a full fixture list of Sunday "friendly" matches. In 1978 the club joined the Bristol & District Cricket League playing its "league" matches on Saturdays. In 1986 the club moved its headquarters to Priory School in Worle and became Worle Airways CC in 1987, and consequently Worle CC in 1998. Due to the redevelopment of the Priory School sports pitches (the cricket ground became a superstore); the club moved to the Lympsham Sports Club ground in 1999 and in 2002 became Lympsham Village CC. Lympsham Allsorts Cricket Club was formed in 2000. Fun cricket had been played on Sundays at the Lympsham Sports Club ground for a number of years, but in that year a number of Sunday fixtures were arranged for the players who wished to take their cricket more seroiusly. An Allsorts midweek side joined the Weston-Super-Mare & District Midweek Cricket League playing its league matches on the Sports Club ground. In 2004 Lympsham Village CC merged with Lympsham Allsorts CC to form Lympsham Cricket Club Today we play in the Bristol & District League and the Weston-s-Mare & District Midweek League. The club is affiliated to the Bristol & District Cricket Association, is a member of the Somerset Cricket Board and an associate member of the Devon Cricket Board. We run a 1st and 2nd Saturday XI, a Sunday Development XI and two Midweek XI's called EFTB Airways & Allsorts. On Thursday evenings during the Summer, a popular childrens cricket coaching/training night is held at the ground for boys and girls aged 8 to 15. There is no charge and everyone is welcome. The club has adopted and implemented the ECB "Safe Hands - Welfare of young people in cricket" policy, and all coaches and assistants are CRB checked and administered by a club child protection officer (CPO). A training/coaching "facility risk assessment " and/or" code of practice for coaches" are available on request. It is a warm and friendly club which welcomes new members at any time. Why don't you join our club, come and play or join in our social activities. You can also join as a Vice President or Corporate Member (see details on other pages). Please feel free to contact us at any time for further details of the club. |
