This is the oldest photo the club holds in its archive. We beleive it is of Western Airways CC (see the website 'club history' page) circa 1965, and is taken at the Westland's Ground, Winterstoke Road Weston-S-Mare. We think Bob Williams Snr is the player standing at the far left, and Glynn Grey is the player standing one in from the right. Steve (Monty) Stevenson, the clubs founder and subsequently its first President, is one in from the left in the front row. If anyone can correct any of our assumptions, and shed any light on the other player's identities, please contact us. Incedentally, look between the first and second players standing on the right, we beleive the youngster peering around the door is a young Tony Williams, who went on to become the clubs most successful player.
This is the clubs first ever fixture card, hand produced by Steve Hicks, who played for the club in the mid-seventees. Steve worked for Rolls-Royce Aero Engines in Bristol, and connected the word 'Airways' in the clubs name with the most famous aircraft of the day, Concorde, and detailed it on the front cover. This is how Concorde made its way on the first ever badge shown below. The fixture card is from the first season the club played regular 'weekend' cricket, with a full Sunday programme. Interesting to see that our now nearest neighbours, Brent Knoll, are on both the Sunday and Midweek fixture list. Also on the fixture list, as opposition in the 'Weston-S-Mare & District Midweek League', is the Lympsham Club of the day, that eventually became defunct.
